Cabo San Lucas

Up

A deserted, coastal setting on the Sea of Cortez
north of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico...
We were brought into this project before the final drawings for the house were completed. Our early involvement allowed walls to be moved and plumbing and lighting alterations to be made so that the cabinetry and woodwork were integral parts of the whole.

We will work with the designers and architects to maintain continuity of theme and essentials of design.

Bar.JPG (58124 bytes)The woodwork in this job was made from Narra supplied by Environmental Home Center in Seattle. Narra is referred to as an LKS or "lesser known species". The harvest and use of LKS species allow the tropical forests to be sustainably harvested with financial viability instead of logging for a few well known species and then, in order to see cash from the land, stripping it for grazing or agricultural purposes. connerkitchen1.JPG (93561 bytes)There seemed to be no downside using Narra. It had beautiful character and color, great stability, worked easily and and gave us a finished product with a fresh look. The occasional burl added a lovely focus at the top of the columns left and right of the stove.

Conner_Kitch_arch_column_pullout.JPG (105003 bytes)In order to maintain an open view through the house to maximize the ocean view, there were few interior walls on which to place upper cabinets. Conner_column_open.JPG (106289 bytes)The pullout column was a solution providing a significant amount of shallow upper storage while maintaining the "no upper cabinet" look.

The small pullout columns left and right of the television provide ample space for media storage while imitating the wooden column theme in the house.Media.JPG (23833 bytes)
