The design of this Eastern maple and madrona burl entertainment center and fireplace complemented the existing maple and red leather furniture in this Seattle, Leschi condominium. The panels were custom veneered from a flitch of fiddleback eastern maple.
Use of a highly figured piece of western maple to make the knobs adds interest and a sign of craftsmanship in the details.
The madrona burl in the upper close up and the walnut burl in the semi elliptical writing desk below, are pieces of art on their own. The use of specialty veneers opens up endless design possibilities.
The writing desk was designed after the customer's memory of a desk she enjoyed while staying at the San Francisco area Naval Officers Club. A description from her memories and a couple of sketches gave us a good idea for the initial shop drawings.
